What began in the 1980´s as an evolution of disco and drum machines, has gradually evolved into one of the most popular styles of electronic music.

In most house sub-genres, and in both major and minor keys, extended chords play a huge role.
Chords with 4, 5, and 6 notes are not uncommon. Specifically, the inclusion of the 9th within a chord is commonplace – maj9, m9, add9, madd9, maj6/9, etc.
Modal chords also feature prominently. Anything that sounds sophisticated, complex, tense, or deep will work well.
A harmonic technique known as planing is also very common.
Planing occurs when a specific chord voicing is moved around in parallel.
